Last week I had a conversation with a client that really stuck with me. Their child had just received an offer to play at a hockey academy on the East Coast.

Big opportunity. Big move. Big expense.

And like most families, they had a moment of “how do we make this work without draining our savings or selling investments in a down market?” (Because seriously… who sells when markets are down?! 🙃)

So, they tapped into the equity in their home.

They knew they’d be selling the home within the year, so using some of that equity short term, with a clear exit strategy, just made sense.

It was a great reminder:
Most people think of using home equity for things in the home, like kitchen upgrades, new appliances, or finishing the basement. But you can actually use it for whatever dream you’re chasing. Travel, education, supporting your kid’s future, or even starting that side business you’ve been noodling on for years.

It’s not just for debt, renos or boring stuff!

A few ways people are using their equity:

• Helping their kids with education, training, or sports

• Bridging a move to a new province for work or family

• Consolidating higher-interest debts into something manageable

• Starting a small business or funding a sabbatical

• Making a once-in-a-lifetime trip actually happen

• Covering upfront costs while selling their home and buying their next

Getting started is surprisingly simple

If you’ve built up equity in your home and want to explore options, here’s what I need:

• Your most recent Mortgage Statement

• Your Home Insurance details

• Some quick KYC info (that’s “Know Your Client”, standard stuff to keep the banks happy)

Once I have those, I can usually give you a clear answer very quickly.

If it makes sense, we get you set up and on your way.
If it doesn’t, you’ve got clarity and no surprises.
