Hey Everyone,

It's the last week of June and it’s supposed to be hot, but then again it’s usually July that has us heading to the lake for some relief. And I know exactly what some of you did last weekend, because I did it too.

You stood somewhere with water in front of you, a dock or a deck or the back of a boat, and you had the thought. The one everybody has out here this time of year.

"What if we owned a place like this?"

Don't worry. This isn't the email where I tell you to go buy a cabin. It's the email where I let you enjoy the daydream for two minutes, and then ask you one question.

You idea of perfect is just like the hundreds of lakes we have in our area, they’re all different. What does your idea of perfect look like?

For some of you it's a little A-frame up at the lake, coffee on the deck, kids running down to the water before breakfast.

For some of you it's the opposite of that. Somewhere secluded. No neighbours. A spot to disappear to when the world gets to be too much.

For some of you it's the family place. The one everybody ends up at. The one your grandkids will remember. Tubing, wakeboarding, fishing.. spending the day on the water out on your boat(s). Yes, you can have more than one.

And for some of you it's purely a "we'd rent it out most of the year and use it for a bit every now and then" spreadsheet kind of thing, and hey, no judgment, I respect the math.

Whatever your version is, you've pictured it. Probably more than once.

The part you'd expect me to ruin with reality.

I'll keep this short, because the daydream's the fun part.

A second place is more doable than most people assume. Plenty of folks fund one using the equity already sitting in their current home, without touching their savings. The financing is a different animal than your main mortgage, and there are two or three things that surprise just about everyone, but none of it is as out of reach as people think.

That's it. That's the whole reality check. We can get into the how some other week.

Here's the question.

This is the actual reason I wrote today. Hit reply and finish this sentence:

"If we had a place on the lake, the first thing I'd do is ______."

That's it. That's the whole ask. One line.

Maybe it's "teach my kid to fish off the dock." Maybe it's "sit in total silence for an entire day." Maybe it's "finally buy the boat I keep talking about." Maybe it's "absolutely nothing, on purpose." Maybe it’s “watch my kid drop their phone off it for tha’ grams.” or whatever kids say these days.

I read every reply, and I'll be honest, these are my favourite emails to get. There's no pitch attached. I'm not going to call you and try to sell you a cabin. I just genuinely want to know what your version looks like.

So tell me. Finish the sentence. What’s your dream?
